Double Eye Needle Technique
One of the biggest aids in snaking the needle through these body
pieces is your eyes. In every case you can look onto the hole where
you want the needle to come out and see it inside there. You can
watch it, guide it and adjust it to get it to come out in the right place.
1. The Upper Arm Pieces
For snaking though the upper arm pieces this configuration of the needle
works well. It is straight with just the little bend on the point and a 90 degree
bend at the other end. Try to make the rear bend be on the same axis as the
little bend. It will let you know what direction the point of the needle is facing
when it is inside the piece. The arm piece on the above right is the outside
arm piece. It has the fewest obstacles and is the easiest to snake down.
There is that one flat plate at the bottom between the two posts, but the little
bend in the needle point will help you get over that. In most cases you will
also have some or all of the little ligament ball floating around in there to get
past. You can use the 90 degree bend at the rear like the rudder of a boat to
steer the tip. Just keep at it until it goes through.
2. The Chest Piece.
This configuration works well for arm hole to neck hole pass. The little bend is still
in place at the point of the needle but the rest of the shaft has a gentle bend to it.
Look in the neck hole and watch for the tip. Make sure it goes around the post as
shown in the above photo. If it just misses, then adjust the bend of the curve and
try again.
For the arm hole to arm hole pass, straighten out the needle and look in the hole
you are starting from. Align the chest piece so that you can see in and through to
the light that is shinning in the destination arm hole. Then direct the tip to the light
and through.
3. Caution
When moving the needle from the arm hole out of the neck hole do not pull on the
neck side. The twists in the needle can act like a saw blade and make cuts in the
body pieces. Once through to the neck always gently push it in with one hand while
you are gently pulling it out with the other. This keeps the needle shaft off of the
body surfaces.
